Written: 11:00 Today I completed my capstone and had the final meeting covering the completion of my capstone project! It is crazy to think that I am finished with the concentration that took me over a year. I also worked in the library today. In the library I re-shelved the Native American section books. The other thing I did was I read books in the environmental science section for content, if the content seemed out of date I would flag the book. Total hours today: 3 h Total hours:  75h 20 mins

Weekly reflection #2

Cara Jones Senior Project  May 15, 2022 Overview of the second week This past week working on my academic concentration I have accomplished many things. I was able to complete my concentration paper, the annotated bibliography, and complete my narrative reflection. Over the two weeks I learned some valuable tasks for my future in college, such as writing many papers in a short time and communicating with others. The following is a recap of how my week went. I have learned so much about communicating with people, and grown academically completing this project. Academically I have learned how volatile some chemicals in plastics are. These volatile chemicals are often used and they are significant to endocrine disruption because it suggests change in organisms body function because of chemicals that mimic hormones. The understanding of endocrine disruption has become crucial to my knowledge because there continue to be more chemicals found to be endocrine disruptors. The other ...

written: 10:24 Today I did my capstone presentation, presenting the project I have worked on for the last 12+ months! I presented at assembly and it seemed to go over well, aside from minor tech complications. Then since I presented I started my narrative reflection! The narrative reflection is a reflection on every part of the project. From the idea to the followthrough of the concept, how the project evolved, and lastly how I finished the project.   May 18 2022 written: 8:35 Today at 10:30 I started and I completed all of my annotated bibliography and at 2:30 I stopped. Then at 4:00 I worked on my video until 7:30. The video was completed and ready to show at assembly tomorrow. Then I got back to my room, edited and put the bibliographies into noodle tools until 8:30. May 17 2022

May 17 2022 written: 9:29 Today I woke up tired but ready to crank my annotated bibliography out. I only worked on my annotated bibliographies today as I had a ton of information to get through. To do an annotated bibliography I first figured out what I had to include. What you put in an annotated bibliography are describing the source, what the author specializes in, similarities to other sources, and why the source was useful to you. Then I had to gather that information for each source and put it together into paragraphs. Total hours today: 6h Total hours:  49h 40 mins

May 16 2022 written: 9:21 Today I had a different type of work day, it was very sporadic. I woke up early and worked on my capstone paper, then took a break. Then I had a meeting with Alan at 10:00, then I worked more on editing my paper to make sure it was perfect. Then I took a nap from 12:00-1:00 then I got back to work and started annotations for the bibliography. Total hours today: 6h 30 min Total hours:  43h 40 mins

May 15 2022 written: 11:31 Today I worked on polishing up my paper for a few hours. I polished my paper because I am trying to finish it by Wednesday this week. On the paper I completed the corrections made by Kristin Nesbitt. Additionally I re-worked some sentences that were not well worded. I still have my annotated bibliography and my narrative reflection to do. Total hours today: 4h 30mins Total hours:  37h 10mins

Overview of the past week May 9-13

Cara Jones Senior Project  May 15, 2022 Overview of the past week This past week working on my academic concentration I have accomplished many things. I was able to nearly complete my concentration paper, complete my competencies, and talk with some staff about ways to reduce plastic on campus while making their lives easier. Over the week I learned some valuable tasks for my future in college, while writing MLA formatted papers. I enjoyed the flexible nature of what I was doing without any surprises. The following is a recap of how my week went. This week I learned one major thing about writing a MLA formatted paper. I learned how you would include vocabulary in a MLA formatted research paper. I had to look this information up on the MLA work cited website Perdue owns. This week I enjoyed it significantly because I could make my own time. I just had to meet a certain number of hours. I found the week a nice change of pace from school, and interesting to see how another pe...

May 13 2022 written: 11:15 Today I took the competencies portion of my academic concentration. I needed to know how plastics starting from proctor academy would get into the ocean and where they would go from there. I also needed to know how to perform water quality tests. The two I performed were PH and turbidity of the water in proctor pond. Additionally I had to show I knew how to collect a species sample from the pond. I passed the competencies! Then I worked on my paper. Total hours today: 6h Total hours:  32h 40 mins

May 12  2022 written: 9:15 Today I studied for my competencies test which is tomorrow. I need to know how plastics starting from proctor academy would get into the ocean and where they would go from there. Additionally I will need to know how to do many water quality tests. To prepare for the water quality tests I reviewed many APES blogs and directions on how to perform the tests. Today I also made graphs for my capstone paper. May 10 2022

May 10 2022 written: 11:00 I worked on my paper some more today, and now it is finished until I get edits to make for the final draft. This is what I wrote: Following plastics as they make their way through the ocean and break down chemically incorporating into the environment is one way to see how much of an impact plastics have on ecosystem health. In gyres and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, there are significant challenges faced in the removal of plastic and microplastics because it has made its way into every crevice of earth. The ocean is all interconnected and the plastics pile up in some areas like in the Eastern Pacific ocean between Hawaii and California. From there many animals consume plastic via first and secondary succession. A sea turtle might eat a plastic bag, many small fish eating phytoplankton confuse microplastic particles with plankton, from there if a larger fish eats the small fish they could receive chemicals especially if they biomagnify. After an anima...

May 9 2022

May 9 2022 written: 9:12 Today I arrived at the library at 9:00 am and worked on my paper. My paper is about plastics. Which as you may or may not know are a huge issue for our planet in the way that they are made, what they release, and how it is contributing to global warming. Humans know that plastics are then manufactured with chemicals and form new compounds. My interest was how plastics find their way into our oceans, and following what the compounds do once in the environment. The following material covers some of the ways plastics find their way into earth's ecosystems and how they break down. It also covers individual ways in which some endocrine disruptors affect/affect organisms.  Then later in the night Shirly and I worked on a video for my presentation. I came up with ideas and hope to start filming soon. Total hours today: 6h 30 mins Total hours:  6h 30 mins
